Iconic Santa Monica Bowling Alley Receives Extensive Renovation,
Reopens As Bowlmor Lanes
NEW YORK, NY, December 19, 2014 – Bowlmor Lanes is proud to announce that Santa Monica’s only bowling alley has received the dramatic property upgrade it so rightfully deserved and will re-open as Bowlmor Santa Monica this week. Formerly AMF Bay Shore Lanes, the building, located at 234 Pico Boulevard (between 3rd and 4th streets), will enter its 56th year of operation as a bowling alley following extensive renovations that include whimsically redesigned interiors and a complete menu overhaul.
The pristine center, noted for its classic Vernacular Modern architecture, has long been considered a Santa Monica landmark, and its redesign pays homage to the city’s rich history. The formerly stark, fluorescent-lit concourse now feels warm and intimate, its dramatic and inviting ambiance created by way of eclectic fixtures including vintage chandeliers and Sputnik light bulbs. Laneside, hard bucket seating has been replaced with plush, tufted banquettes and oversized tables where guests can enjoy cocktails and cuisine from the new and improved Bowlmor menu. The center’s bar and lounge, a previously enclosed, quiet space, has now been remodeled to create an open floor plan that shares the vibrant energy of the rest of the facility.
“This renovation honors the importance of this iconic building, and we are delighted to provide an upgraded bowling and dining experience for the residents of Santa Monica,” said Tom Shannon, chief executive officer, chairman, and president of Bowlmor AMF.
The revamped venue, specially designed to accommodate parties and group events, now also features an upscale private event space. The exclusive lounge boasts enclosed patio seating, a dedicated bar, and is adjacent to a four-lane, semi-private bowling suite. In addition, all 24 of the venue’s lanes have been fitted with floor-to-ceiling HD video screens—ideal for viewing the big game, debuting a new product, or creating a dance-party atmosphere with music videos.
Parked out front you’ll find the swanky “Bowlmor-mobile”—a 1957 custom Cadillac that harkens back to the kind of vintage Americana evoked by the newly upgraded property. Even the menu is a reimagined take on classic American favorites, with cleverly re-invented signature dishes like the Ultimate Grilled Cheese, made with three cheeses and served on parmesan-crusted sour dough; the Sloppy Joe Rolls, wrapped in crunchy egg roll shells and served with creamy salsa; and the Behemoth Burger, a 5-lb, 14-inch-round party burger topped with the works and meant to be shared. Guests can pair these culinary offerings with Bowlmor’s new selection of handcrafted cocktails and discover a contemporary twist on their favorite classic drinks, with playful and provocative names like “The Madhattan” and “Jack the Sipper”.
With modern upgrades to enhance the guest experience and intricate details that highlight the building’s unique history (think vintage velvet wallpaper), Bowlmor Santa Monica is poised to be the area’s quintessential destination for authentic entertainment, family recreation, private parties, and corporate events.
