New York, New York - December 23, 2009- Bowlmor Lanes, the world renowned bowling alley in Union Square, which has been in continuous operation since 1938, plans to open its second flagship location in the former New York Times building on West 44th Street in Times Square.
The company plans to operate a 50 lane bowling alley – featuring seven distinct dining/bowling areas, each themed to represent iconic places in New York City (Chinatown, Central Park, etc). The 90,000 sq. ft venue is set to open in fall of 2010. Plans for Bowlmor Lanes at Times Square include a dramatic 18ft bowling pin in its entrance, which local artists will compete to decorate. An opulent front desk area will be designed in the style of an antique luxury hotel front desk- complete with a concierge and shoe shining service.
Design plans for the space also include Warhol inspired artwork, a Brooklyn Bridge inspired stairway, and other details that pay homage to the great city of New York. The midtown venue will be the 7th national location for Bowlmor Lanes, who has properties in Long Island, Bethesda Maryland, Miami Florida, Orange County California and Silicon Valley California.
The company recently made headlines when Paris Hilton hosted the grand opening of Carnival at Bowlmor Lanes, which has quickly become one of the most popular new nightclubs in the city. “We plan to create an authentic New York experience on a grand scale that will really be ideal for residents of New York and the corporate event market,” said Thomas Shannon, the founder and CEO of Bowlmor Lanes. “It will be spectacular for visitors as well.”
